COHRED’s work with partners since 2005

Mapping of a national health research system is a useful way for countries to have a clear picture of their current health research activities and assets. Using this perspective research managers can define areas of the system to be strengthened and policy makers can see where investments can be targeted to improve the performance of national health research to meet national health and development goals.

Since 2005, COHRED has mapped national health research systems in nearly 80 countries. These mapping exercises have been done in partnerhip with countries and others – such as the World Health Organization Middle East and West Asian regional offices.

The results of these studies will be progressively placed on this page.

Eastern Medditerranean

Strengthening health research systems in the Eastern Mediterranean

A partnership between COHRED, WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office and the Gulf Cooperation Council, was started in 2005 to strengthen the capacities of health research systems in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

To inform these efforts a National health research system mapping in the Eastern Mediterranean Region: A study of ten countries (2008) was done with partners from the countries in the region. The study identified gaps in NHRS governance and management in a number of participating countries. The results have been published in the Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal (2008).
