The study brings two unique elements to the debate on access to medicines and local pharmaceuticals production in Africa:
 

• The first map showing those active in medicines development, production, procurement and access on the continent – set against the drug development pipeline. This is a working document that will be continually updated on the Health Research Web platform (www.healthresearchweb.org) 
 

• A guide and tools designed for senior African policy makers to assess their situation and develop a medicines innovation and access strategy – by country or regionally.
